10 ESSENTIAL REASONS TO EAT ORGANIC FOOD

Organic food was the way of life for our ancestors. They survived thousands of years having healthy meals made of organic food. It helped them face the adversities of nature by increasing their immunity. Then came the age of artificial fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides etc. to pollute Mother Nature and exploit her to the fullest. After man’s honeymoon period with these artificial products ended, he began to realize the demons hidden behind them. Once more, we have turned to eating organic food. The trend is growing fast and more people are joining this health conscious brigade every day.

We shall see the essential reasons behind eating organic food:

  1. DEVOID OF HARMFUL CHEMICALS

The most essential reason is organic foods are devoid of the harmful chemicals that the chemical foods consist of. The chemicals give rise to a lot of complexities in the human body. People suffer from a huge spectrum of diseases due to prolonged exposure to these chemicals.

  1. PRESERVE MOTHER NATURE

The organic foods also preserve Mother Nature, unlike chemical foods which are responsible for a lot of environmental problems like global warming, water pollution etc. The CO2 emissions from the chemical pesticides in the fields play a very big role in global warming. When the pesticides are washed off from the fields into rivers, streams and seas, water pollution takes place adversely affecting the aquatic flora and fauna.

  1. HIGHER AMOUNT OF NUTRIENTS

Organic food consists of a higher amount of different kinds of nutrients as seen in numerous scientific studies. They have significantly higher amounts of anti-oxidants, vitamin C and a host of minerals like iron, calcium, magnesium and chromium. These nutrients have numerous health benefits like preventing cancer, strengthening bones. Organic tomatoes for example, contain 79% and 97% more quercetin and kaempferol aglycones (beneficial flavonoids) respectively, than the inorganic variety.

  1. FREE FROM NEUROTOXINS

Pesticides are a very rich source of neurotoxins. Neurotoxins damage our brain and nerve cells. It is very harmful and prolonged exposure might be fatal. Since organic farming is done devoid of chemical pesticides, there is no chance of neurotoxin intake on consumption of organic food.

  1. LESS EXPOSURE TO ANTIBIOTICS

When cattle are raised organically, the farmers do not administer anti-biotic. Hence the dairy products and the cattle meat do not contain anti-biotic. This is a very good feature of organic farming affecting the lives of the non-vegetarian people. Usually, farmers tend to administer anti-biotic to prevent diseases. On prolonged intake of these anti-biotic the useful bacteria present in human-gut get killed, causing complexities in the human body.

  1. GENETICALLY MODIFIED FOODS ARE HARMFUL

Genetically modified food consists of pesticides which keep functioning even after its intake by human beings and animals. These adversely affect us in a number of ways by slow poisoning us to death.

  1. ORGANIC FOOD TASTES BETTER

Organic food tastes a lot better than chemical food. Fresh fruits and vegetables which are grown organically are not only good for our health but also for our taste buds. Even organic meat is more succulent than the inorganic variety. The normal presumption is that something which is good for health is not tasty. In this case that presumption does not hold.

  1. ORGANIC FOOD MAINTAINS ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

The use of organic food ensures that we sustain the natural resources for our succeeding generations. Chemicals released from pesticides and other chemicals affect the soil, water and air in a very bad way. Global warming and various kinds of pollution can be prevented by producing organic foods. Otherwise, the situation will get worse from now on affecting the coming generations badly.

  1. BENEFICIAL TO ALL PARTIES IN THE FOOD CHAIN

We have seen that organic food is essential for human beings. At the same time it is beneficial to the whole food chain. Right from the useful microbes to the decomposers, organic food pays heed to the needs of everyone.

  1. SUPPORTS BIO-DIVERSITY

The use of organic food supports bio-diversity which is essential for the very existence of living beings on this planet.

We all know the famous proverb, “Old is gold”. It is very apt in this case, as we see that after the evolution of the human race for so many years, we have to go back to the ancient ways of life again.
